How to Prepare for a Pre-Purchase Exam
HOW TO PREPARE FOR A PRE-PURCHASE EXAMINATION
In order to allow us to conduct a thorough examination, we recommend that pre-purchase examinations are performed with the following conditions and preparations:
The horse should be groomed and have been stabled for 3 hours before start of the exam.
Suitable premises required to perform the examination include:
• a darkened stable to perform an ophthalmic exam
• a flat, level hard surface for the lameness exam (a laneway may suitable)
• an indoor/outdoor ring or similar area for the ridden exam.
Please note that if conditions are not suitable, we may have to postpone or move the exam. In the winter, an indoor riding arena with good footing must be available.
If you have any questions relating to pre-purchase examinations, or to book an appointment, please contact our office on 705-722-3232 or by email at info@centralontariovet.com
We know that the detailed nature of the process may seem a little daunting, but we will always try to assist your understanding and make the pre-purchase examination of a horse or pony comprehensive and informative.
We look forward to the opportunity to assist you in your next equine purchase.
