Prescriptions & Dispensing

Our governing body, the College of Veterinarians of Ontario (CVO) and the Veterinarians Act and Regulations (1990) state that only a Veterinarian may prescribe medicines to an animal.

We may only dispense medicines to animals under our care. This means that we must examine our patients on a regular basis to comply with the law.

This has the benefit of ensuring that we prescribe the right medicine at the right dose for that particular condition and animal.

As a result, we will need to visit any animal or herd for which we dispense medication at least annually.

Antibiotic and antimicrobial resistance is a great concern to society, and to horse owners and farm families in particular.

Ensuring that your veterinarian is involved in deciding whether or not antimicrobial treatment is necessary, and in deciding which antimicrobial would be most appropriate for the particular case, is one way we can help to limit the development of resistant bacteria that pose serious risks to human and animal health.

If we all do our part, we won’t waste the effectiveness of these precious drugs, and they will be available to us when we really need them.

To ensure that we will be able to provide you with the medications you require, please call the office with at least 24-48 hours notice prior to pickup from Monday to Thursday. This will allow us to order products and make sure they are here for you to pick up.
